Overview of Creek Greenbelt Area

The creek that runs through our community is called the "Upper White Rock Creek" and is the same creek that flows into, and gives its name to, White Rock Lake (south of our community).

The small creek, or tributary, that runs between the homes on Ironhorse Drive and Rio Secco Drive and under Whitefish Lake Drive, is called "Horned Owl Tributary" (this name was chosen by the HOA Board in 2003). This area was named after two horned owls that had made our community their home following much of the development that had taken place in the area.

The entire greenbelt, approx. 14 acres, is designated an open space and natural preserve and is protected under §404 of the Clean Water Act, and monitored by the United States Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). The conditions in which this area can be maintained, and what can be planted within the area is controlled by the permit approved by the USACE in 1999 (often called the "404 Permit").
